Host Families for International Boarding Students
We are currently looking for local families to host our students for half term holidays and exeat weekends. Typically half terms can be between 1 – 2 weeks and there are 2 exeat weekends per term, lasting 2-3 nights. We are primarily looking for families who are available to commit for the next academic year from September 2018.
Families need to be able to provide a warm, caring environment that an international student would feel comfortable in. Whilst we do not require that you have any children of your own, experience with children is preferable. Families are expected to integrate our students into their everyday lives, and also plan activities and outings within a balanced scheduled. We want students to build lasting relationships with our families so they look forward to returning each holiday.
Families are required to:
- Provide full board accommodation for agreed dates
- Provide the student with a suitable and safe bedroom of their own with appropriate access to a bathroom and a suitable place to study
- Provide transport between the school and the home for each stay and assist with occasional airport duties
- Assist with special purchases e.g. mobile phone, clothing
- Once a relationship has been established, we also encourage our families to attend a school social event to support their student
- Provide emergency accommodation at short notice where possible and within reason
We pay families £55 per night per student, with an additional Responsibility Allowance of £100 per term for longer service. This is not a position of employment, and families should check with their local tax office that no tax or National Insurance is payable.
Parents Abroad is a small guardianship organisation looking after the pastoral and academic welfare of international boarding school students. Our Head Office is based in Windsor, and we work with a range of schools within the surrounding areas only, so that we can provide a personal service to our students. Our students come from all over the world, and can be aged between 8 to 18.
Parents Abroad is committed to the safeguarding of our students, and therefore we are required to carry out Enhanced DBS background checks on all members of the household aged 16 years or over. A face-to-face interview in your home, a home health & safety check and professional and personal character references will also be required before commencement, as well as safeguarding training. Families will be expected to have appropriate motor and household insurance, and inform their insurers of their duties.
This is a great opportunity to learn about different cultures and build lasting relationships with students who can become an extension of your own family.
