Corporate Security Specialist (Aviation)
In a nutshell
At Virgin Atlantic our Corporate Security Specialist provides routine tactical and operational security advice to the airline, ensuring compliance with statutory and company security requirements. This involves provision of specialist security support to protect our personnel, assets, information, facilities and business operations, including monitoring compliance standards and recommending appropriate security solutions and supporting effective security information management.
Day to day
You will provide Aviation Security Specialist advice and interpretation of aviation security regulatory requirements, with accountabilities falling into five key areas:
Security Specialist Support: Respond to statutory requests for information from law enforcement, regulators and other established members of the security community, as well as supporting internal departments and third-parties with Security and Aviation Security advice and guidance to ensure awareness and compliance. You will also provide internal Safety and Security Action Groups with briefings and updates.
Avsec and Security Compliance and Performance: Maintain appropriate oversight of the Airline and our partners including conducting audits, inspections and compliance tests to identify areas for improvement. You'll effectively collaborate with third party suppliers, external security, law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
Security investigations: Conduct and support corporate and regulatory investigations, collaborating with Asset Protection team to reduce the financial impact of acquisitive crime.
Security Information Management: Creating and updating the department records and databases ensuring all manuals and current and compliant, maintaining information repositories and collating and disseminating Open Source security information/intelligence. Additionally, inputting to the Risk Assessment process as required.
On Call Duty: Provision of 24/7 on-call response capability (threat assessment/security incident management) and manning of Crisis Management Centre as needed. Deputising for the Head of Security and Corporate Security Manager on both business and usual and security event matters.
You'll possess a current knowledge of the aviation industry and security practices and threat management, including a good understanding of both Avsec regulations and global security threats and risks and their impact on the industry.
You'll be capable of making dynamic judgments (linked to security threats and risks) and be able to demonstrate the ability to cope with and remain highly motivated in high-stress situations.
An effective communicator (both spoken and written), confident at all levels of the organisation, you'll require minimal supervision. Robust report writing and analytical skills are also required as well as a good level of systems and PC literacy (MS Office).
A flexible approach to work is required, there will be some overseas travel and you'll form part of a 24/7 on call process regardless of your location in the world. You must be able to satisfy the requirements of HM Governments SC level security clearance and ideally you will have completed the DfT Level 3 Security managers training course and threat assessment workbook.
